The License Plate Production Enhancement System is a high
tech solution to the challenges of production vanity or personalized
license plates. Have you ever read a license plate on the
road that had an encrypted message like "IMGR8"
or "CUB42L8"? These messages are hard enough to
comprehend forwards, but just imagine the operator of a license
plate embossing operation of which most are set up to have
reverse placement of letters and characters to make such a
plate. The first two examples would read "8RGMI"
and "8L24BUC". It's easy to see how mistakes are
made and why personalized plates take the longest to make.
A good operator can make up to 1,000 serialized plates in
an hour, but that same operator would have trouble making
250 personalized plates.

John R. Wald Makes It Work
The Production Enhancement System is another example of engineered
systems developed by the John R. Wald Company to "Make
It Work". The PES is an affordable opportunity to digitally
enhance existing production methods. Typically it produces
a run list for daily production, but it can also be used with
a bar code scanner to run specialty graphic plate blanks that
require personalization.
Operational Flow
- Personalized license plate orders are received (typically
in alphabetical order).
- Custom PES Software imports data into the PES database
and then optimizes it to provide the most efficient sequence
for minimal tool changes.
- The digital die display shows the next plate to be made
with the correct sequence of hinges and spaces.
- The operator arranges the hinges in the M48 Safety Feeder.
- The PES system "reads" the hinges and verifies
that the right hinges are in the right places.
- Successful verification enables the press to interlock
to allow for an operator to emboss the plate.
- A time and date stamp is recorded in the database for
reporting and analysis of production.
