After a license plate has been finished by the production
facility, it can easily be lost in the
shuffle unless a proper warehouse control and inventory management
system is put in place. While some plates will be mailed directly
to the customer, many plates are destined to fill the shelves
of a central warehouse or DMV branch office until needed.
As a result, many states have a large backlog of inventory
that is poorly tracked, improperly managed, and not distributed
to the branch offices in a timely manner. With the advent
of the John R. Wald DigiTag Warehouse Control and Inventory
Management system (WCIM for short), these problems can be
managed efficiently and effectively.
At the end of the production process, a barcode is printed
on the back of each plate with the License Plate Digitizer
system. (See separate flyer for more details on the LPD
system.) With a barcode placed on the back, the plate's
appearance will not be affected while still allowing for complete
plate-level tracking from the time the plate is finished until
it is given to the customer. The LPD system will also generate
barcodes for each box and pallet of finished plates as needed.
After processing the finished plates, the LPD system communicates
with the DigiTag WCIM system, which automatically "checks
in" the finished plates into a central inventory warehouse.
Inventory levels at each distribution location are monitored
by the WCIM system, and transfer requests from the central
warehouse to each location are automatically initiated when
stock levels reach pre-set restocking limits. As inventory
levels in the central warehouse are depleted, new orders can
be automatically placed with DigiTag Order Administration
for restocking. (See separate flyer for more information about
the DigiTag Order Administration Interface.)
When
a branch office or other distribution outlet issues a plate
to a customer, the plate number is taken out of inventory
and stock levels for the branch are adjusted. The clerk at
the branch office can simply scan the barcode on the back
of the plate at the time of issue. The transaction will be
reported back to the DigiTag WCIM through a web interface,
pre-existing network infrastructure, or a nightly dial-up
data transfer.
With the DigiTag Warehouse Control and Inventory Management
system, each branch office or distribution outlet will have
enough plates on hand while central inventory levels can be
kept at minimum levels. Ultimately, you will lower costs,
increase efficiency, and enable new insight into your warehouse
and distribution process. Contact the John R. Wald Company

for you.
